UMCH LEGACY | CARRIE HOLLIMAN
CARRIE HOLLIMAN:
A UMCH LIVING LEGACY
Carrie Hardiman is a 94 year old participant of the Senior Program at United Methodist Community House and could definitely be referred to as a UMCH Living Legacy.
Spending over 40 years as an active participant and former employee, Ms. Hardiman had lots to share about her experiences at United Methodist Community House.
How long have you been attending UMCH?
“I’ve been comin to United Methodist for 40 something years now. I started as a person who came to eat, then I started to work. I worked in the senior kitchen and served food, and then I worked in to other kitchen and baked pies. Whatever needed to be done, I did, and I haven’t regretted a day of it.
I’ve been here for so long; I’ve seen so many people come and go. Most of the people that work here now, I was here before them.
My children always say, “Mama don’t you get tired goin to the Methodist?” and I always say NO!
The Methodist is my second home. Everybody knows me, and I know them. They are all my family. Some of em’ call me Mama, some call me Grandma. Whatever they call me, I answer.”
What do you enjoy doing at UMCH?
“Ever since I’ve been comin here I’ve loved to do the ceramics. I’ve made many pieces such as pitchers and bowls and cups. I have one sitting in my bedroom right now. I love to make toys and cups, saucers and angels and send them to my different friends in Michigan, Mississippi, Illinois and Chicago. Some of them pay me good for my work. I recently made a dog for my son in Florida that I’m going to send him for Christmas!”
