DAD'S LEGAL CLINIC

Fathers of all ages and backgrounds attended the Dads Legal Clinic at UMCH on June 26, 2009. As a way of increasing access to valuable resources, the clinic brought together organizations that provided the fathers with information about locally available services.

After the clinic was kicked off by Sharon Killebrew, Executive Director, and Barry Smith of the Michigan Fatherhood Coalition, the fathers were presented with beneficial information from experts from the Legal Assistance Center and Friend of the Court. The fathers also had the opportunity to become actively involved in valuable conversation with the expert representatives.

Thank you to all who were involved in the Dads Legal Clinic 2009!

UMCH SENIOR PROM: DISCO FEVER!

The annual senior prom, held in June 2009, proved to be successful! Over 70 seniors, ages 60 and above, were chauffeured to the prom, held at UMCH, by limousines, had a full dinner and participated in an evening of dancing and karaoke!

Check out what some of our seniors had to say about what they most enjoyed at the prom...

"Music was good, food was good. I could not get out to dance but I was pattin’ my feet, clappin my hands and movin’ in my chair." -Mrs. Carrie Holliman:

“I was just a dancin’ with my cane. It was stormin’ outside and we were dancing up a storm inside.”-Ms. Grace Davis

"We had a limousine pick us up and the music was real good – some of my favorite."Mr. John Briles

"With the one man band (DJ Services) I was taught how to dance." -Mr. John Briles

"I liked ALL of it and I did cut a few steps!" -Eddie Towsell

Anita Christopher, United Methodist Community House Director of Community Relations and Senior Manager stated, “It is important for our services to support the seniors basic needs, but it is also important to bring joy into their lives and to just have fun.

A special thank you to Rev. Nathaniel and Laura Moody for their donation of the limosuine services, Grand Rapids Community College School of Nursing for providing 6 nursing students to serve the dinner and George Gregory of “A Cut Above Entertainment” who discounted his DJ entertainment services.

CROWNS 2008

A special thank you goes out to everyone who supported the 2008 Crowns Performace at Circle Theatre. Thanks to you, United Methodist Community House was able to profit from the occasion. All profits will go towards our effort to continue serving all children, youth, adults and families in our community.
