Youth Development programs provide school age children with opportunities to stay busy, learn skills, strengthen relationships, reinforce learning and have new experiences.
We are very proud of the youth programs at UMCH. Over the past three years we have doubled our programs to serve even more school age students in our community. I am pleased to say that our evaluation score support the great work that we do. Youth and their parents find our programs have tremendous benefits, check it out for yourself.

BELIEVE 2 BECOME helps teens succeed in school, work, and life. It is a collaborative partnership that creates opportunities for high school students to receive academic support to prep for college, learn job skills, participate in college visits, and continues with summer learning in a fun, supportive atmosphere.
Sign up for the program at your Grand Rapids Public School.
PROJECT LIFT – Linking Information and Families Together is a texting program that helps parents stay in touch with their student’s academic progress. The pilot tests whether providing direct updates and educational enhancements to parents will help them support their children’s success in school and result in achievement gains.
Project Lift families are identified by their school to be a part of this innovative program. For continuity, UMCH staff follow students from the start of the program, until they graduate. Current students are at: Alger, Ottawa Hills and Central schools.
LOOP BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM is offered right in Grand Rapids Public Schools to provide elementary aged youth with an opportunity to do homework and have structured recreational activities. Snacks are provided and the staff help create an atmosphere of fun and learning.
Currently UMCH manages six different sites within the Grand Rapids Public Schools. To sign up, visit your school office. UMCH managed sites are at: Sherwood, Dickinson, Mulick Park, Martin Luther King, Grand Rapids Montessori, and Gerald R. Ford schools.
